The moment you catch yourself saying "don't lump me in with those people" and then sit with that defensiveness long enough to actually examine it, that's the bravest move in the piece. Most writing about complicity stops at acknowledging it. This one goes further and asks what it means that we've built an entire cognitive architecture to avoid feeling it.
